Hi, I am back with yet another blog post.Today's post is about a Character who is protagonist from very famous Movie " Hobbit an Unexpected Journey" which is prequel to fantastic triology of "Lord of the Rings". I am talking about "Bilbo Baggins".
Basically movie is about Bilbo who was a simple Hobbit(type of people in middle earth) living in peaceful city of shire. One day wizard "Gandalf" along with 13 dwarves comes to Bilbo's house to reclaim the LONELY MOUNTAIN from a DRAGON called SMAUG which resides there. Basically that mountain was actually ancestral home of these dwarves but was taken away from them during a war with Orcs(very dangerous kind of demons in that era). This movie is all about their journey and the problem they face to reach there.
So the question is why Bilbo ?
I think Bilbo is one of the most underrated protagonist character in any fantasy movie. That Character was Simple Yet so Heroic and I think that's the best part about it.
Following are his Characteristics which are praise worthy.
1. Bilbo Baggins was simple yet adventurous kind of person which is a rare combination.
Basically in the movie when Gandalf asked him to accompany them to lonely mountain, he refused to join them intially because he was happy living peacefully and comfortably in his home. Why would he take his life on risk.Next day when he saw that all dwarves and Gandalf were gone without him, he realised that we all need to step out of our comfort zone in order to achieve something so he took a risk and accompanied them.
2.He was sensitive and understanding.
In today's world we all like to think about ourselves only but Bilbo was not like us.
There was a scene where Bilbo was escaped by "Thorin" King of dwarves from falling from rock ,so he angrily said that Bilbo didn't belong to be part of journey because he was not strong and not a warrior like them.Bilbo felt hurt after listening to what he said and decided to go back to his city. While he was going one dwarf stopped him. Bilbo said " I don't belong here, I need to go back! I miss my books, my home.You guys won't understand because you don't have a home" .Dwarf was hurt by Bilbo's word and let him go.
BILBO REALISED HIS WORDS WERE NOT RIGHT AND PROMISE HIMSELF THAT HE WON'T GO TILL HIS DWARVES FRIENDS GET THEIR HOME BACK FROM DRAGON.HE DECIDED HE WOULD HELP THEM IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY .
3.He was Intelligent as well as smart.
This is also another best part of this character , he was innocent but not a fool.He was shown really intelligent.
There was scene in the movie where Bilbo got separated from group of dwarves and fell into a cave where he encountered gollum, who had golden ring.Gollum was slimy creature who was about to attack Bilbo so that he could eat him. But Bilbo with his intelligence convinced Gollum to play a riddle game. He kept a condition if he loses he could eat Bilbo else he needs to show him the way out.So he defeated gollum in the game and escaped from the cave where he was trapped.
4. He was really brave heart person.
Bilbo was not very strong physically , he didn't know any sword fighting .But when "AZOG" the chief of orcs tried to kill his friend " Thorin" , Bilbo took his sword out and came to the rescue of his friend who considered Bilbo as a weak person.That scene was really heart touching . By seeing the courage of Bilbo ,other dwarves who were earlier trying to escape from Orcs ,also started fighting. Finally all of them were rescued by Eagles.
5. He was forgiving man with a kind heart.
Basically in the climax of the movie, when all the dwarves were rescued by Eagle and Thorin got awaked ,he realised that Bilbo even not being a warrior came to his rescue and fought against the deadliest villain. He was a real hero and what he thought about him initially was totally wrong. He asked Bilbo for his forgiveness. Bilbo hugged him and accepted his apology very graciously. That truly proofs that Bilbo was really of forgiving nature. He values his friendship with Thorin and other dwarves and was giving his best so that they could get their forbidden kingdom back.
At last I would like to say Bilbo was Gem of Person and True Hero.
He showed that you don't need to be born warrior in order to defeat bad guys , you can beat them with little intelligence and little courage in your heart.
